Just the beginning...

... of the new crop of plants for the patio, that is.

This year we are going to try something new-We are planting seeds. No, not one or two little lima beans- 144 peat pellets, 16 varieties of plants, 3-4 seeds per pellet. That's a lot of plants, IF they all grow. Don't assume that just because I'm a landscape architect means I know how to grow stuff or how to mow grass. I know a little of the former, and have never done the latter. I have somewhat successfully grown plants on our patio the last few years. I have grown herbs from seed. But I have never undertaken a garden started completely from seed. This will be a first.

The nice thing about this year is that I have a co-gardener, Joel. Saturday morning we plunked down beside our 2 plastic Jiffy "indoor greenhouses" (really just a plastic tray with the peat pellets with a clear plastic cover) and pain-stakingly planted tiny seed by tiny seed.

Hopefully within 7-10 days we'll have a nice family of little sprouts. Right now they're just little bits of vitamin-enriched soil, sprinkled with seeds, soaked in water, and of course, full of love.
