Assateague and Crosspoint

(I know I'm behind on the blogging. This camping trip happened 3 weeks ago and I'm just now posting. Sorry. I guess I will need to catch up. We didn't do anything for Memorial Day, besides sit out at the park by our house and sleep and play Rummikub. It was exactly what we wanted after being apart for the week (Joel was in Egypt, pictures to come). Anyway, so here we are: rewind three weeks. I'll catch up, promise!)

Assateague is an island on the edge of Maryland and Virginia. Home of wild ponies and lots of sand. Crosspoint is the young adults service of Cherrydale Baptist Church. Home of lots of wonderful Christian young men and women and some very excited campers.

Put the two together and you get a wonderful weekend spent enjoying the beach.

But it was cold. Here is the story:

There were 14 of us that went. A pretty good group. Here we are huddled under the tent for lunch since it was raining.
Steve, our fearless leader. He is trying to maintain body warmth after his surfing expedition.
Grilling hamburgers for lunch. Luckily the rain stopped and it warmed up a smidge. Amy is enjoying her hamburger. The wild ponies want to share our tent. Or maybe they want our hamburgers.
Amber admires the pony from a (very short) distance.
Joel in his native environment. Some other Crosspointers playing frisbee in the background. One good thing about the cold weather is that we practically had the place to ourselves.
Saturday night we had a bonfire on the beach. We cooked whatever we could find in the fire- apples stuffed with an oatmeal cookie (my personal invention), chicken breasts, and of course, hot dogs and smores.
Two days without showers meant the hats definitely stayed on. But I think you will still recognize these two people...
